It is an derangement of nature by toxic products. It is mainly of 3 types-
Air pollution
Land /soil pollution
Water pollution.
Air pollution is the one which affects the skin the most. So important for us. Air pollution comprises of two parts particles and dust . other is harmful gasses.
Particles are mainly of two types which are relevant - PM 10, and the nano particles or PM 2.5. PM 10 are larger and generally get deposited on the skin and sometimes in the one pores. But the PM 2.5 are very small / nano and have the ability to get absorbed in the upper layer s of skin and thereby cause problems. Common problems we know are increase in oil production of skin causing more black heads and white heads and acne. Increase in increase in pigmentation allergic rashes, Sun sensitivity, increased tendency to tanning etc. These particles PM2.5 have now been linked to increased joint pains and asthma and other respiratory diseases. Next in line comes the gases
1. SO2 Sulphur dioxide
2. NO2. Nitrogen dioxide
3.O3 or ozone (ozone is good when present in upper layers of atmosphere but bad when present in air near earth.)
There are many ways by which we can prevent side effects of pollution on our body and skin
1. Plant more trees around your home keep a small plant inside your room
2. Many people keep air filters in their home
3. Wash your face with a good face wash at least twice a day this takes away the dust and pollution particles on the skin
4. Pollution protecting sunscreens available in the market which prevent pollution particles to go inside the skin
5. Lot of antioxidant medicines which take away the pollution particles in the skin
6. Diet rich in fruits and vegetables helps to boost the the antioxidant capacity of skin and thereby limiting damage by pollution particles
Any skin disease can be increased by pollution but generally air pollution increases acne
Pigmentation
Sun sensitivity
dark circles
allergic rashes etc
Q1.How to prevent bad affects of pollution on face.
And. Regular washing of face with a good face wash. Regular application of sunscreen based creams.
Q2. Since It Is RAINING
Almost every day (Monsoon saeson) Is It STILL
NECESSARY TO APPLY Suncreen?
Ans.
UV radiation levels are alarmingly high in the
monsoon months. In the rainy season, the
rain washes away pollutants and UV radiation
can reach the earth's surface with greater
ease. It is the most hazardous time to be
outdoors. Hence, sunscreens are a great way
to protect your skin from the sun if you have
to be out in it.
Regular application of sunscreen based
on your skin type will make you sunsmart all round the year.
Q3.
Some sunscreens contain harmful chemicals is it safe to apply them everyday?
Not every sunscreen is harmful. The right
sunscreen for your acne-prone skin should
have the following characteristics:
. Oil-free and non-comedogenic: Which
won't block pores.
. Silicone-based: For absorbing sebum
from skin, thus providing smooth, soft
and even skin appearance (mattifying
effect).
. Broad spectrum: To protect against both
UVA and UVB rays.
. Sun protection factor (SPF) 2 30: To
block 97% of UV rays.
. Safe: Does not contain any allergenic
ingredients or vehicles such as paraffin,
myristates, glycols, etc.'
